Each Sunday of Advent unfolds a unique grace, drawing us deeper into the mystery of God’s love made visible in Jesus Christ. Below you’ll find the themes and readings for each week, along with the traditional symbols that help us contemplate the light Christ brings into our lives.

First Sunday of Advent – November 30, 2025

The first Sunday in Advent is all about watchfulness and hope. The first violet candle, often called the Prophet’s Candle, symbolizes hope. As it is lit, we recall the longings of Israel and our own longing for Christ’s presence.

Reflection: This first week urges us to awaken our hearts. The Lord comes not only at the end of time but in the quiet moments of each day. Advent hope is not passive. It prepares us to meet Him with joy.

Second Sunday of Advent – December 7, 2025

The second Sunday of Advent invites us to prepare the way of the Lord. The second violet candle, the Bethlehem Candle, represents faith and preparation.

Reflection: John the Baptist’s cry, “Prepare the way of the Lord,” resounds in our hearts. This is a week for repentance, renewal, and the courage to let God reshape what needs healing.

Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) – December 14, 2025

The third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, is joyful. The rose candle, the Shepherd’s Candle, symbolizes joy.

Reflection: The Church pauses in her penitential waiting and invites us to rejoice. Christ is near. Even in the burdens we carry, His light breaks through with tender mercy.

Fourth Sunday of Advent – December 21, 2025

The theme of the fourth Sunday is the mystery of the Incarnation. The final violet candle, the Angel’s Candle, symbolizes peace.

Reflection: With Mary, we contemplate the extraordinary gift of God drawing near to us in flesh and blood. Her “yes” gives shape to our own call to trust the Lord’s work in our lives.
