“Pilgrims of hope.” This is the call Pope Francis extended to us for the Jubilee Year 2025. At St. Clement Eucharistic Shrine, we joyfully embrace this sacred invitation. As one of Boston’s designated Jubilee pilgrimage churches, we welcome you to journey with us into a deeper experience of God’s mercy and grace.
Listen to Fr. Grover, OMV, share insights into the opportunity for deepened faith and spiritual renewal during Jubilee 2025.
For everyone, may the Jubilee be a moment of genuine, personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the “door” (Jn 10:7.9) of our salvation, whom the Church is charged to proclaim always, everywhere and to all as ‘our hope’ (1 Tim 1:1).

What is a Jubilee Year?
The history of the Jubilee traces back to the Old Testament, where every 50th year was set apart as a time of forgiveness, rest, and restoration (Leviticus 25). Debts were forgiven, land was returned, and the Israelite people renewed God’s covenant.
In the Catholic Church, the tradition of the Jubilee was first instituted by Pope Boniface VIII in the year 1300. Since then, the Church has celebrated both ordinary Jubilees, which occur every 25 years, and extraordinary Jubilees during moments of great need, such as the Year of Mercy in 2015.
Each Jubilee Year invites us to rediscover the transforming power of God’s mercy and to renew our relationship with Christ and His Church. It is marked by pilgrimage, Holy Doors and plenary indulgences.
Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage is at the heart of every Jubilee. It’s a tangible way of leaving behind the ordinary and seeking God with renewed intention.
Whether you travel to Vatican City or make a pilgrimage to St. Clement Eucharistic Shrine in Boston, the journey has the power to become a spiritual encounter with Christ through prayer, silence, sacrament, and sacred space.

Holy Door
The Holy Door (Porta Santa) is a key symbol of the Jubilee. It represents Christ Himself, “the door” to salvation (John 10:9). Traditionally opened by the Pope at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome to begin a Jubilee Year, the Holy Door is also found at select pilgrimage churches worldwide.
Walking through the Holy Door is an outward sign of inward conversion. It is a passage from sin to grace, from despair to hope.
At St. Clement Eucharistic Shrine, a designated Holy Door was opened for the Jubilee, offering pilgrims the opportunity to step through in faith and receive a plenary indulgence.
Plenary Indulgences
Plenary indulgences are an expression of God’s mercy, allowing the faithful to receive remission of the temporal punishment due to sin. While sacramental confession removes the guilt of sin, indulgences address the lingering spiritual effects, helping to purify the soul and draw closer to God.
During the Jubilee, this indulgence is offered to all the faithful who:
- Make a pilgrimage and pass through a Holy Door
- Go to confession and receive Holy Communion
- Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father
- Detach from all sin, even venial sin
This gift of mercy is not only for oneself—it may also be offered for the souls in purgatory. Learn how to receive a plenary indulgence during Jubilee 2025.
Jubilee Year in 2025
In 2025, Pope Francis called on us to become “Pilgrims of Hope,” encouraging us to live with hearts rooted in God’s promises and open to healing a wounded world.
Preparation and Prayer
Preparing for the 2025 Jubilee was a multi-year process. Pope Francis invited all the faithful into a two-year spiritual journey leading up to Jubilee 2025.
- 2023: A year to rediscover the teachings of the Second Vatican Council
- 2024: A year dedicated to prayer, particularly the “Our Father,” to deepen our trust in God
Jubilee Events in Rome

Official Logo
The official logo for Jubilee 2025 depicts four people embracing one another and moving forward together, led by the cross of Christ. Their shared boat symbolizes the Church on its pilgrim journey, driven by the wind of the Holy Spirit. The image reflects unity, fraternity, and the hope found in Christ—the heart of the Jubilee invitation.

Jubilee Resources
The following prayers, hymns, Masses, and online resources can help you deepen your faith and Jubilee experience throughout the year and beyond.
Pray the Jubilee Prayer
Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your Kingdom. May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel. May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth, when, with the powers of Evil vanquished, your glory will shine eternally. May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope, a yearning for the treasures of heaven. May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth. To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever. Amen.
Sing the Jubilee Hymn: Pilgrims of Hope
“Like a flame my hope is burning,
may my song arise to you:
Source of life that has no ending,
on life’s path I trust in you.”
