Cebu and Antipolo, The Philippines
The Oblates of the Virgin Mary began giving the Spiritual Exercises in the Philippines in 1994. At first, an Oblate priest stationed in Italy made trips to the Philippines for several months at a time to carry out this ministry. Due to the great demand for retreats coming from the Filipino people, among them many priests and religious women, the Oblates soon began to consider a permanent mission there. After establishing the foundation in Cebu in 1997, the Oblates quickly attracted new vocations. Late in 1999 construction began on the Oblates of the Virgin Mary Formation and Retreat Center, where seminarians are prepared for their vows and ordination, and where people can come for an extended time of retreat. From Cebu, the Oblates regularly give the Spiritual Exercises throughout Asia and the South Pacific.
In 2015, construction began on a new OMV Formation Center in Antipolo. This would be the new home for our OMV novices and brothers who, up until then, had been using a rented property in this community just outside of Manila. This new, second Formation Center in Antipolo is due to be completed in 2016.
