“The greatest among you shall be your servant.” — Matthew 23:11
Dear Friend in Christ,
Meet Fr. Jim and his assistant, Jenny.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the office and one of the reasons I love working for the Oblates of the Virgin Mary.
Fr. Jim is Servant Leadership in action. His jovial voice precedes him down the hall as looks for Jenny with the words, “Where’s the boss?”
Then with a smile, he kneels down at her desk, discusses business, signs papers, then stops at my door on his way out.
Mid-October found us all freezing in the office when Boston went from 80° to 38° overnight. Fr. Jim personally pulled the AC units out of all the windows and carried them away to storage.
Most would never suspect he is Rev. James A. Walther, Provincial Rector, bearing the responsibility of running OMV operations for all of the United States and the Philippines. In fact, he’ll tell you his job is “just serving my brothers.”
The truth is: he serves us all, he does it with a smile, and he does it well.
Thank you, Fr. Jim!
