About Dcn. Jay-Ar

Dcn. Jay-Ar was born and raised in the city of Bandar Seri Begawan in the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. His family are members of Couples for Christ, an international Catholic lay ecclesial movement originating from the Philippines, and he was a member of their Kids for Christ and Youth for Christ ministries. In 2008, his family migrated to Vancouver, Canada, where he earned an AA from Corpus Christi College and a BA from Christ the King Seminary.

He first learned about the Oblates through the VISION Vocations Network, and was attracted to their spirituality and community life. Dcn. Jay-Ar entered the Oblates in September of 2017, began his novitiate year in August 2018, and professed his first vows in August 2019. He professed his Final Vows on January 27th and celebrated his diaconate ordination on January 28, 2023.

“It is humbling to know that Jesus wants to give me this gift of being one of His priests. I am grateful for how He has been preparing to receive this gift, and for His promise to help me live this gift well. Blessed be God! I also thank all of you for your generous support. I look forward to serving God and His Church as a priest of Jesus Christ!”

Celebrate the New Fr. Jay-Ar With a Gift

First Mass

On July 23, the day after his ordination, Fr. Jay-Ar will celebrate his First Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Peter Chanel Church in Hawaiian Gardens, California at 12 pm PT.

“I have asked the Lord to give you great courage and firm hope in God.” Say then with boldness, “Now I begin,” and go forward constantly in God’s service. Do not look back so often, because one who looks back cannot run. And do not be content to begin only for this year. Begin every day, because it is for every day, even for every hour of the day, that the Lord taught us to say in the Our Father, Forgive us our trespasses, and Give us this day our daily bread.”

Venerable Bruno Lanteri, Founder of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary

Ordination to the priesthood is a momentous milestone, and we’re overjoyed to celebrate Brother Jay-Ar and his journey thus far. All are welcome to attend these blessed and joyous events. Please keep our brother Jay-Ar in your prayers as he prepares to be ordained a priest of Jesus Christ!
